After Hurricane Katrina and the devastating loss of homes and property FEMA deployed 1700 hundred trailers from China for the evacuees and displaced people from the floods to live in as temporary shelter. However due to the severe destruction and widespread damage the temporary occupancy became long term in nature.

Chemical – VOC Emissions

Although recently constructed the trailers contained high levels of harmful VOC’S in the form of formaldehydes that off gassed from the building material in the trailers. The joy of having a new residence was short lived as noticeable health issues became evident with the evacuees.  The trailers became a hazard due to these fugitive emissions.

HGI was contacted to provide air purification equipment to deal with the high concentrations of formaldehyde that were present in the trailers. Boss 2’s were deployed to combat the VOC’S in each individual trailer.

Long Term

The evacuees were able to return to the hydroxyl treated trailers as the Odorox generators had created fresh air indoors and abated the off gassing of the formaldehyde. This allowed them to live in a healthy environment until they could return their neighborhoods after the reconstruction efforts were completed.
